    • Boehringer Ingelheim (BI)
  • Total project costs: € 3,000,000

Metabolomics is the rapidly growing field, studying the metabolic network at a large scale. Based on technological advances in mass spectrometry and the paradigm shift to systematic approaches in biology, the approach has gained significant interest in many areas in biology. The beauty of metabolomic approaches is that
they directly capture a physiological status. The proposed SRF will establish the required infrastructure for performing mass spectrometry-based metabolomics experiments, both for targeted and untargeted metabolomics. In collaboration with the partner institutes, research will be performed regarding sample preparation, bioinformatic solutions and strategies for generating meaningful data sets. In addition, collaborations have been set up with Boehringer Ingelheim and several academic institutions to foster research across institutes and between academia and companies. The ultimate aims of the project are to establish an excellent research infrastructure resource in Vienna and to generate results with high impact in biology and biomedicine, securing the long-term sustainability of the resource.
