CeMESS, University of Vienna

The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS) addresses key scientific disciplines of the 21st century.

Researchers at CMESS explore how microorganisms shape natural and man-made systems and how human-caused pressures – including emerging contaminants, altered biogeochemical cycles, and climate change – impact our environment.

Three research divisions of CMESS are based at the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB) at the VBC campus:

  • Division of Computational Systems Biology (CUBE)
  • Division of Microbial Ecology (DOME)
  • Division of Terrestrial Ecosystem Research (TER)
