| The quest for the healthy life knows no boundaries.
The prevention and treatment of cancer and of infectious diseases are
as much global challenges as the ongoing debate on food, agriculture and
the environment. As an important step towards eventual solutions, Campus Vienna Biocenter is doing fundamental research into cellular processes in man, animals and plants which open up exciting new approaches to the problems. The comprehensive range of life science services available on the Campus makes an invaluable contribution to this process. |

| International network – International people | ||
| The international reputation of the Research Institute
of Molecular Pathology is one of the reasons why the core of the Campus
now consists of more than 900 staff from 40 countries. The international
connections that this brings allows the Campus to benefit from scientific
developments worldwide. Research and development is carried out in concert with such world-famous institutions as the National Institutes of Health in the USA, the Karolinska Institute in Sweden or the US Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR). The Campus’s network of business contacts started by Boehringer Ingelheim (Germany) to encourage the development and marketing of successful products continues to expand. It includes US companies such as Baxter Bioscience, Merck & Co., Chiron and Affymetrix and European businesses such as Berna, MediGene, Novartis, Q-One and Syngenta. Including also its contacts in Asia, the network now extends to three continents. |
||
| International investors | ||
| Research results originating at Campus Vienna Biocenter
are published in Nature, Science, The Lancet and other leading peer reviewed
journals. Over 250 publications annually by the Institute of Molecular Pathology and the university institutes on the Campus bear witness to their competence in ground-breaking research. The constant stream of patent applications - the Vienna region is in the European forefront here - testifies to the practical usefulness of the research results. |

Biocenter is backed up by the
teams of top-quality interna-tional
advisers. Among their
numbers are several Nobel
laureates, a member of a Nobel
Prize Committee, members
of Harvard Medical School,
the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT) and the
Max Planck Institute for
Biophysical Chemistry. These international connections ensure that the latest scientific discoveries are swiftly incorporated in the Campus’s work. |
